Bruce Clark appointed interim dean
Dr. Bruce Clark has been appointed interim dean of the Faculty of Education for a two-year term that began July 1, 2007. Dr. Clark takes over from Dr. Annette LaGrange. Dr. Clark has been a U of C faculty member since 1983 and holds the academic rank of associate professor specializing in Instructional Design. For the past two years he has been the faculty’s associate dean. Dr. LaGrange, after successfully completing two terms as Dean, will remain in the faculty and continue to be involved in various initiatives. Other changes in the Faculty include the appointment of Dr. Don Saklofske as Associate Dean (Research), Dr. Ann Sherman as Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and Dr. Colleen Kawalilak as Assistant Dean (International).
Education's Lebanon projected lauded
The Faculty of Education, along with partners Collège Boréal (Sudbury) and TEAM International (Beirut), has received an Award of Excellence from the Canadian Association for Distance Education (CADE) for the Lebanese Educational Development Project, a $1.2-million World Bank-funded initiative to help Lebanese high school principals improve their leadership, motivational and management skills. The project’s goal is to train a core group of principals as trainers and establish pre-service and in-service training programs using an innovative e-portal mentoring system to address the difficulties of traveling in some areas of Lebanon. Canada’s first online EdD in Ed Tech meets need for innovation
The Faculty of Education's Graduate Division of Educational Research (GDER) has added a specialization in educational technology to its online Doctor of Education (EdD) program in response to the growing demand for expertise on the role technology plays in education and training. The online EdD is the first degree of its kind in Canada. The Ed Tech specialization is designed for teachers, instructors, IT professionals, administrators and others interested in the advanced study of technology and innovation and the growing demand for these in learning environments. August 30: Back-to-School PD Sessions and Education Alumni Wine & Cheese
The Education Faculty is bringing back two popular PD sessions to help alumni start the school year off right: Survival Tips, a primer for first-year teachers and Tune It Up, a refresher for experienced teachers. Both will take place on campus from 4:30 pm-5:30 pm. The PD sessions will be followed by a Wine and Cheese networking event for all Education alumni from 5:30 – 7pm. Watch for more details on these alumni events in early August.
September 7 & 8: Kick-Off, the U of C’s free back-to-school celebration for students, staff and alumni features a Friday evening concert by Juno Award-winning Canadian rock singer Sam Roberts and a Saturday tailgate party and football game between the Dinos and the U of S Huskies. You’ll get more details when you receive your Kick-Off invitation later this summer.
